Commissioning a Portrait

Artist Lisa in Studio Closeup (touchup 2).jpg

The portrait procedure begins with a consultation between the artist, Lisa Matthews, and the client, preferably in the client's home. Lisa presents her portfolio which gives the client an insight into the many possibilities that can be achieved. Ideas begin to flow and the creative process begins. She then makes suggestions regarding the main elements of the portrait such as mood, composition and setting. Other details are discussed with the client such as clothing, color, size and where the portrait will hang.

Selection of Photographs

When selecting photographs, the most important elements to consider are composition, lighting and the subject's personality. Existing photographs are reviewed in an effort to capture each of these elements. As Lisa creates the portrait on canvas, she can place subjects in different settings and change the color of clothing to achieve the desired results. If necessary, arrangements will be made for a photographic session with Lisa or a photographer of your choice.

Painting

After the best photographs have been selected, Lisa will return to her studio to begin the portrait. Once she begins painting, she typically allows 30 to 60 days for completion depending on the portrait's size and complexity.

Framing and Delivery

Framing is an important finishing touch to enhance the overall beauty of the portrait, so Lisa will be happy to help you with your selection. The framed portrait will then be delivered to the client and complete satisfaction is guaranteed. If the portrait is shipped, photographs of the portrait will be sent prior to shipping for the client's approval.
